Good concept though, keep working on it you're on the right track.
you better tell the aftermarket console company's that :P actually your mostly right, MDF using the construction here has no place in a Jeep but can be used if done right

tack together with nails then use some fiberglass sheets and resin on all joints then seal the lot with a epoxy resin or estapol etc then cover with the coverring of your choice vynl or carpet etc this is what just about every aftermarket custom made interior from any auto trimmer has done and lasts fine including the auto sound that have massive harmonic vibrations to deal with

ive only used mdf because i had it sitting in the garage and was thinking about a console so done this to kill some boredem, that is a good point about mdf which was why i was thinking of doing it out of ply or something we went up the watagans on the weekend and it shook the shit out of the car and the console didnt move i was thinking of leaving the bottom peice easy to take out for wires changing things round ect and sealing the top for when the roof is of what else other than ply would you suggest making it from as i have all the templates it will be really easy to make it from something else, the downlights are from an rsl club we renovated and they are 12v and bright as all hell

yea so far it has not cost me a cent just killed some boredem and seen if i would like an overhead console and dont like it i bloody love it best thing ever and now that i know this design couldent possibly work better im going to use what i have made as a template to do it properly with alll my switches in the console, ine of the best things about it is everytime i want to talk in the uhf i dont have to pick it up talk and put it back i just squeeze the button and talk and can be heard nice and clear without picking it up ohh so easy, so once i finish making the tent on top of the trailer this week i will get back to doing the console properly with fuse box and the works ill keep pics posted
