Default XJ Cherokee Shudder

Dealers are ridiculous over here, they more or less double (or triple) the US Mopar prices.
Also I didn't think XJs had a MAF? Did you mean MAP?

Christ. Meanwhile i'm over here complaining about an $80 crankshaft position sensor from the dealer.

If any of you ever want a US Mopar Dealer Part and don't want to pay your retail, i'll ship em over for the cost of the part + shipping.

Yes. I meant MAP. Can't keep my MAPs, MATs, and MAFs straight.

Scratch that idea OP. You can't clean a MAP sensor out. Once it's toast - it's toast. Try cleaning the contacts though, that might do something. Worth a shot.

I buy all my electrical sensors directly from the dealer as a lot of sensors that are aftermarket are hit and miss with a lot of them being miss.
Dam, I already ordered the TPS from Rock Auto, I went for the more expensive one in their range. It will hopefully confirm whether it's a TPS problem or not. . . it costs roughly the same as the Jeep mechanic charges just to read my codes.

My CPS was AUD$148 from the Dealer

What is a MAP Sensor (I'll do some searches)

Don't get me wrong. That TPS might be fine. I've just had so many bad sensors out of the box that made me think something else was wrong that i tend to just buy dealer sensors now. Granted i don't have to pay the ridiculous prices you guys have to pay for them. I'd probably do the same if i was in your boat.

The MAP sensor reads your manifold vacuum and sends a signal to the ECU so it can adjust fuel delivery according to engine load. If it's bad, your Jeep will run very rich, blowing black smoke. Normally if not always throws a code when this thing goes bad.

I also remember reading somewhere that a guy was having a "slight misfire" and after changing out a bunch of other things he accidentally realized that it was a poor electrical connection on one injector.

Default Tps

So my new TPS arrived today.
I've fitted the TPS and wondering if I need to do anything to adjust/reset it?
When I started the Jeep, it was idling at 1500rpm but this dropped down to 1000rpm by the time I returned from a test drive.
On the test drive it seemed to run smooth, didn't miss or shudder . . . but I only took a short drive as it wasn't changing gear until 3000rpm under soft throttle and wouldn't go over 3000rpm full throttle.
I've just pulled the TPS off again and making sure I didn't position it wrong or accidentally turned the sensor bit when installing it.
Not sure if I need to do anything to reset it, or if the ECU needs to take a bit of time to adjust to the new sensor.
Cheers

I removed the new TPS, compared it to the old one including the angle of the inside bit.
I've re-installed the new TPS. . . checked a few You-Tube videos to see if I've missed anything. . . all looking good.
Did 2 x test drives, 1 from cold and 1 hot.
Both times it starts, holds 1800-2000rpm then slowly drops to around 1200rpm.
Take it for a drive and it's stuck in first gear until 3000rpm on a mild throttle and up to 4000rpm if I go even softer on the throttle.
As soon as I sink the boot into the throttle it changes up to top gear.
Kinda like it's doing the opposite of what it's supposed to be doing, holding the gear under low throttle and changing up when it should be changing down.
I re-did the Throttle body cable adjustment as suggested by ApacheResistance below to see if that made any difference and took it for a third test drive and it made no difference.
The TPS oly appears to fit 1 way and the inside part only turns 1 way so I can't see how I could have incorrectly fitted it, but open to suggestions. I'm thinking the TPS may be faulty and sending reversed outputs to the ECU.
At least the misfire and shudder seem to have gone (although the shudder was only occasional) so it looks like that was likely to have been caused by the TPS.
I'll see if I can get ahold of a genuine Jeep TPS and if that solves the latest problem.

Default XJ Cherokee Shudder

Did you reset the ecu by pulling the battery terminals and touching them to each other for 10secs?
