Bump...

I have just read this thread as always interested in researching how to make my Jeep better, so I went and removed my grill to have a look at what I had. Now I'm confused. What I would like to know is what is the cooler behind the little stock transmission cooler. The tubes are the same size as the tiny stock one so I was thinking it was the "dealer fitted aux cooler" I have read about on here, however the pics I've seen seem to show something a bit smaller. This one is almost the entire width. I've had a new radiator installed 18 months ago by a shop. I have no experience with radiators so please excuse my ignorance.
In the first pic you can see the fins of the rad behind the middle cooler.
Do I have one really fat radiator that looks like it's made up of two sections and one miniscule stock trans cooler, or do I have one normal size radiator, one stock trans cooler and one giant, extra aux trans cooler in between?

That large skinny one is the condenser for the air conditioner.

and with a bigger cooler, you can bypass the radiator so you're not pumping extra heat into the motor.

I'm not fixing it, I'm improving it!

if your trans is hotter than coolant you have an issue.

Trans temp is one thing, temp of the fluid fresh outta the torque converter is another. This is why it must be cooled to an extent that keeps the average temp of components within spec.
FSM states 50-80*C is the normal operating temp inside the AW4, but trans fluid temp itself will be much higher depending on slip. If too hot, it will the fluid will start to break down.

I had a Derale 6 tube cooler for a while but not impressed with it. Just fitted a Davies Craig 679, it ran ten degrees cooler on my test track.
