I was reading through one of the links that Chumby put up - the Legal one, and found this which is very relevant for those wanting tyres and a lift:

Raising the height of the vehicle may be performed without certification providing the overall increase in vehicle height is not more than 50mm. This may be achieved as a single modification such as the installation of a 50mm lift kit, or by a combination of smaller lifts as described below:
 the fitting of body blocks or lift kits (50mm maximum if no other modifications resulting in a change of vehicle height are performed);
 suspension modification, (50mm maximum if no other modifications resulting in a
change of vehicle height are performed);
 changes to tyre size (maximum change in tyre size diameter of 50mm); or
 a combination of the above that results in a change of vehicle height not exceeding 50mm.

For the record tyres cannot be engineered in Qld.

Correct me if I'm wrong
Maybe not yet but I bought some rims off a guy with a GU Patrol that was downsizing as he got busted by the transport department on Teewah Beach on a Tuesday middle of the day on his way back from Fraser Island. He had 35's on the Patrol and aside from the fine this now puts his vehicle on the anti-hooning register and means next time he's busted it's confiscation.

Bridgestone have a 4x4 Tyre data book which covers state regulations, Tyre,rim sizes and heaps of other info, while Tyre description is related to Bridgestone the book is a good guide. Far easier to read than the BIG Tyre and rim standards guide which I have.
National regulations should be with us about the time that pollies take a pay cut.
Good post Chumby.

Hi Fester,

Reading the doc below from PMac:

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/c7..._vehicles2.pdf

It says:

"However, for an off-road passenger vehicle fitted with front and rear beam axles, the maximum tyre width must not be more than 1.5 times the vehicle
manufacturer’s widest optional tyre."

It also has some other info in there related to rims and wheels...

Not sure if this is current or something else has superseded this info...

Cheers

Thanks Drover,

Would be good to get an online version of that Bridgestone information... I'll have a hunt around.

Cheers
