Hey Rob,
I believe the driveline backlash starts in the transfer case
The chain is so sloppy it’s past ridiculous
The front out put shaft of the transfer case has way too much lateral play too
This all transfers to the front diff, which in itself has a reasonable amount of play
Chrysler’s solution was to fit voided rubber mounts to the front diff,
because this is where most of the backlash can be felt.
This is another reason we are always eating CV joints on the front of the transfer case.
The rear output of the transfer case is shaft driven, so doesn’t suffer from excess play.
The rear diff is also quite reasonable with its backlash settings.
So I don’t believe any amount of work on the front diff will eliminate driveline clunk.
Might reduce it a bit, but won’t eliminate it
It’s a Jeep thing.
