I live in the US now but my hometown is Guelph in southern Ontario. Guelph is about 80 km West of Toronto. I'd love to go back there but the money is here, so here I am.
Yes, the DJ is a mail Jeep. My plans were to make a fun, not too serious 4 wheelin Jeep that would get some looks around town and on the trail. Here is what it looked like when I bought it 1 1/2 yerars ago.
Since then I've done alot of paint stripping, replacing rotten steel (fenders, floors), sandblasting and painting.
The postals are 2wd so I pulled the Clark axle and swapped in a dana 30 SOA in the front. Then I got rid of the tired rear leaf packs for some out of a YJ. Mounted them inboard under the frame instead of outrigged beside so I gained the extra height.
The drivetrain I swapped in is a T5/Dana300 combo (yeah I know T5's are kinda lame but this thing is suppossed to be 'not too serious' remember). The motor is the original 232 I6 and it still runs like a dream.
Fabricating a clutch pedal and finding a place to mount it was all sorts of fun.
She's pretty much finished for now. I've got some wider more offset rims lined up to make it a bit more stable (more stable means I can go up higher
). After that maybe a once around with some body filler and then have my neighbor paint her.
