Default Larger Tyres on My KL?

Has anyone fitted 255/55 X R18 tyres to their Limited KL with 18" wheels and if so has it been successful, my first thoughts were to fit 17" wheels giving me more selection of A/T tyres, there is not a lot of selection in wheels taking into consideration of the PCD of the KL Cherokee; the alternative is then, to go up a size in tyres. There seems to be a few good brand A/T tyres in this size e.g. Nitti Grapper G2, Continetal Conticross UHP, Pirelli Scorpion Zeros' any other ideas would be appreciated. We are towing a lightweight camper through Northern Australia so I want something reasonable?

Hey Zip. Firstly, that equates to a 29in tyre, 1/2 in smaller than a stock trailhawk tyre which I know will fit fine on a non Trailhawk.

The only thing I am not sure about is a 255 on the lesser offset rims. I think it would fit, but you would need to check the current clearance to the front strut on existing tyres and work out how much wider the 255's would be.

Default larger Tyres on my KL Limited?

Thanks TYOKKA, not really an option I was considering but thanks all the same. And SeaComms thanks also you mentioned the size is smaller than the Trailhawk tyre I thought the current tyre on my Limited was 28.5" it's a 235/55 x 18" which I imagined would be the same as the Trailhawk in dia?

Exactly my point, if I'm to believe all the conversion charts on tyres; the 255/55xR18 tyre should be almost the same size as the standard fitment 245/65xR17 on the Trailhawk it's .4 of an inch wider being the difference on a
7 " wheel as opposed to the Trailhawk wheel being 7.5" Possibly not a good thing? Frustrating I say.

All this for a minimal change in tyre size? Why spend the money?
