Default My Jeep is a piece of shit.

With the amount of problems I've had you would think my car is 20 years old. In the last two months of chewed out two brand new belts, taken it to two different machanics (one was a jeep service center), both had replaced bits which have fixxed nothing. My rear main seal, which was replaced less then a year ago has failed again, the power stearing pump is leaking oil, it is starting to run a bit hot, worn a hole in the turbo hose and now it won't start.

Has anyone had any problems with there car not starting. When I turn the key to on all the lights and gauges do what they are meant to do, but when I switch it to start the starter motor cranks once then the whole car dies. This is includes, engine, interior lights, dash lights, central locking, engine bay light, etc. After this occurs it doesn't even look like startng. Not even a push start could get it going.

Even when I've got a car triing to jump start me it cuts out. Eventually I got the car started, and I'm getting a check gauges, check engine lights up because the battery gauge on the dash is moving all over the place, up to 18-19V.

I looking through the wiring dirigrams at the moment but any extra help would be brilliant.

Thanks Lads

Sounds like the voltage regulator is stuffed.

Electrical crisis over! I feel pretty small right now. When though the wiring diagrams and found that the only think that could be causing this problem is the cable running from the battery to the first fuse box next to it. So I checked the cable out, nothing wrong with it, but there was no voltage where there should have been.

Then I clicked, I clean my battery terminals about two months ago so I hadn't even though that they could be the problem, but when I lifted the positive off the battery, there was another huge build up of corrosion. I know, I know, first thing you should always check is the battery connections.

Anyway, what I think is causing it, is the clamp, which tightens onto the battery, isn't closing enough due to its shape. So I hacked a bit off and the clamp had a much tighter grip on battery lug. Wish I had some picture to show you but I haven't joined the digital age yet.

The reason the voltage was floating so much is because the car was running without the battery connected, No capacitance in the electrical system makes it very hard for the regulator to regulate.

Thanks all
Hope I didn't cause too much bother.

Hey Fud,

What happened about the belts, oil leaks, heating and turbo hose?

Just a question, did you walk under too many ladders?

Cheers

Just a thought on the belts /leaks etc, are you running them too tight?
If the pulleys on your pumps(water and P/S) are being pulled out of alingnment by the belts being over tight this may be causing the leaks??
Would also explain why the belts dont last long???
