Default Help please

Hi jeepers, went away to bright for a couple of days and did the high country. Awesome up there, we did a river crossing that was up to the tyres. Tried to get up an embankment a few times then decided to just reverse back out of the river, the jeep was still running perfectly until i turned it off. When I tried to restart it, it would crank but not kick over fully. Took us a while to recover the jeep, there was this one sketchy hill we had to winch up then took it back to camp and let it sit there till the morning for the 3 hour tow back to melbourne.

The jeep will:
* Back fire while trying to start
* Start with a pull start in second gear but no throttle response and also back fires like crazy when you put it into gear while running.

I'm no mechanic, but I have checked the a few things that I thought it could be:
* Pulled out the plugs gave them a clean.
* Pulled out the starter - looks good as far as I can see. I replaced the starter 3 months ago.
* Checked if any plugs/connections were pulled out.
* Also checked fuses.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
cheers

Hm. Anychance theirs water in the fuel. Also are you running a snorkle? And could your exhaust be full of water ?

Try bump start it down a big hill, might be enough to get it going. Sorta sounds like injectors or the fuel system.

Also get underneath and check all the O2 sensors on the exhaust, make sure whilst being recovered etc the wireing hasnt been damaged

Try the easy shit first.
Blow all the plugs/connections out with LIGHT compressed air and spray em with CRC or similar
Is it showing any codes?
Did water get in to the Airbox?
Does it have a Distributor?

Maybe it's not related but as i mentioned in the NTK o2 thread i changed my o2 sensors a few days ago. Immediately after changing the plugs the jeep wouldn't start. It took a few goes and then started, ran a bit rough and was fine until i stopped it a few klm away where it wouldn't start again. After another try it started fine and then i drove about 55klm and it was fine after that - no more starting problems.

Maybe the plug was loose or the ecu needed to learn the plugs but it didn't like them at all for a few starts.

You said you've been getting o2 codes, maybe check and clean the connector plugs?

cheers

G'day Shaun,

Good to meet you yesterday mate (by coincidence!). It sounds like your timing is out by miles to me - dumb question but do they have a distributor? If you can turn it by hand maybe something knocked it... even if you can't i'd mark where it is now, loosen it off and give it a turn in both directions (turning key in between).

Good luck.
