So I chose to not remove the timing cover till I had a clear idea of what leak i had turned out yes I have a small leak in the timing cover right up the top behind the engine fan bracket... I only found this using ulta copper silicone gasket maker around the timing cover and a full clean of the engine so when I started it and got the temp up I could then clearly see where the oil was leaking from as it seeped through coming from the bright orange silicone seal I lined the timing cover with... so just an idea maybe a stupid question but I was thinking about the fact I need to lock the crank from moving as I remove the crankshaft damper bolt yeah? .. could I possibly remove a glow plug and fill a cylinder with oil and replace the glow plug to stop the piston being able to move as it won't be able to compress the oil would it? Then after the timing cover is replaced with a new gasket in place and the crankshaft damper nut replaced at correct torque remove the oil from the cylinder? Any opinions on this idea please let me know??

Filling GP hole with oil probably wont work. Your problem is not the front seal. It sounds like you have a ring problem.
