you can get somne good recovery receivers from TJM and ARB, cast metal, twin bolts with latch to stop your strap falling out, they are only about $25 each i think. might have to drill into chassie to install but i think they come with bolts also.

IMHO the best forms of recovery points also offer protection.
For the front it's hard to beat an ARB or Warn bumper. For a Used ARB, contact Mr Lamb(mark@depot.com.au) he's selling his as he designs his custom flat fender....
Rear - for starters it's hard to beat the simple towbar. This also acts as a skid protecting your fuel tank....

well already got the towbar so that fixes up the rear end.

Gotta see if the bank stretches to get a bullbar though. Might have to make temporary arrangements in the mean time.

sir_c, check out the pic of my rig in the dirty jeep thread in General Discussion - the tow hooks I added to the stock bumper take 10000lb, and I bought them at SubMicks for fifty bucks each or something - had to source grade 8 (hightensile) half inch UNC bolts. Note that these bolt the hooks into the chassis which makes them ideal recovery points.

One thing to note is that on one side u can reverse the tie down loop and bolt the hook on top but on the other side short of getting a spacer block I had to grind down the rubber bumpstop some. Used a dremmel and it took some doing but the solution is fine.

Hey Guys,

I need to fit some recovery points to my TJ. Where are the best spots to mount them and what type of hooks etc should i get?

Any other advice would be great...oh and roughly how much would also be tops if anyone can give a rough idea.

I can't wait till i can start giving advice rather than just always asking :confused:

Seeing as though the actory tie down is next to useless, I got rid of mine and had two cast recovery points installed on the front. They are the hooks everyone else has mentioned.

We (Jeep owners) are lucky, because the two holes in the recovery hooks match the hole spacing on our front chassis rails.

My two hooks, including a spacer plate under each one, longer high tensile bolts, installation was just under $70.

If you install yourself, you can make a spacer out of some flat steel bar with two holes in each spacer (saves grinding away the rubber bumperette), and you can source your longer bolts from a fasteners supplier. In Canberra we have stores like Specialty Fasteners who do avery type of bolt, rivet, nut, pin etc you care to mention.

With your rear recovery point, depends on the brand of tow bar you have fitted. Example - I have a genuine Mopar hitch on the back. An ARB reinforced snatch strap goes straight into the hitch receiver and is located with the pin. Hayman Reese bars have a small receiver and you can't get an ARB strap in there.
