Overheating
Quick question...
Will driving up a long winding hill (Bells Line of Road) while running 33's and stock diff ratios potentialy cause the car to overheat due to an excessive load?
The reason I ask is that we planned to go up to the Blue Mountains yesterday via Bells Line of Road. Once we got passed Kurrajong the check gauge alarm went off and the temp gauge was in the red. We pulled over and the overflow resivour was boiling over quite severely. We let it cool down, top it up with water and decided to drive back home (it didn't overheat on the way home). The aircon was off at the time.
On the way home I bought a new radiator cap and a thermostat just in case, which I replaced (the old thermostat was fine when I tested it in boiling water).
The car ran fine this morning to work. Prior to this, the temp gauge never moved past 100oC. There are no leaks.
We done 100km of non-stop 4wding through Putty State Forest without issue in the past.
Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. Cheers
