460 000km and your dizzy is original and fine?
I heard on many US forums the XJ's had a crappy design dizzy, and would fog out earlier than expected due to its poor design.
I could clearly see and feel excessive play in mine after 250 000 km

Thanx alex! Champion.
It wouldn't surprise surprise me at all that Chinese after market dizzies have the driver gear out a couple of degrees etc.
Just handy to know what it should be , rather than just assume its made correctly.

No worries Mudgee,
Ive had a bit of experience with the dizzies now and its all in my VSB XJ thread.
There is a few problems with the original dizzies when they have done a lot of k's. I swapped in a cheap Chinese after my original started chirping. Ran like crap with the aftermarket one. I then fitted a grease nipple to my original and it worked great again.
So.... i found another low kilometer Sagem (original OEM) distributor in good condition to keep as a spare, and i fitted a grease nipple in that one too.
Its now in the XJ and she is running great.
Each time i swapped a distributor in and out, i just used the rotor button position as a reference, take one out, and put one back with the rotor button in the exact same position. Works perfectly everytime.. except for the cheap Chinese dizzy that i have since dumped.
Cheers,

I was thinking a bronze bush/ sleeve for the original dizzy. A common upgrade for other units apparently. They have very poor lubrication stock.

hey mudgee hunter as i said my distributor has never been out of the block, i tried once but couldn't move it, the sensor within is also original, all others thou have been swapped out, I've owned the car now for 23 of its 27 years ( built january 1994)
its been off road , on the beach and towed a 23 foot cruiser, and still goes well
i originally changed the oil and filter every 5000km but now once every 2 years as its now a garage queen.
i once crushed a trans cooler line against the block flexing it and didn't realise
it took 5 years and about 100,000 km for the trans to die.
these are awesome vehicles highly underrated by the ausie wanker brigade in there nissan's and land bruisers
oh well

My TJ is twice a year. Once at or around Christmas, and the other early July.
