Looks like they reinforce the roof and bring the legs out closer to the doors. Doesn't look like the sort of thing you could take on/off regularly. I'm thinking of going with the rhino pioneer platform, but not sure I'll be able to keep my weight under the limit. Might have to leave the kayak at home....

I'm keen on the Gobi rack. Quality bit of kit, but you definitely aren't taking that bad boy off once installed. I'm just trying to sort out a second mortgage to afford one...
I was quoted $570 shipping for the rocky road one with all the extras (still half the price of the Gobi).
The Pioneer platform seems to be the weapon of choice, but if you've got a spare tyre up there it doesn't leave much headroom for extra weight.

Why would you think they reinforce the roof ?
They simply remove the roof rails completely and bolt their rack straight to the roof, the GC roof is incredibly strong, @ 4.5 gvm crush rated, it is the flimsy original roof rails that can only take the 68kg load.
To remove the Gobi simply undo the six bolts either side (bolt into the roof) and take the rack off, just make sure you replace the bolts to keep roof water tight

From the pic it looks like they reinforce across the original bolts with steel plating that runs out to the channel above the doors. The legs of the platform are then standing out on the plate closer to the channels where there is more strength and less flex in the roof.
Just by looking at the pic that seems to be how they have increased the load limit.

Not so sure it's just the OE Roof Rails...The Rhino doesn't use then but rather solid mounts that bolt inside the OE rails and place no weight on the OE but directly on the roof but Rhino rate theirs at the OE 68kg on-road and if you read their safety notes, you should reduce the load by half if going off-road,, So what's that all about??.. The bars and rack are off my Commander (bought the WK2 leg set separately) which I regularly stood on to pack I have them on mine...Not so sure I'd do that with them on the WK2...Paranoia?? Maybe!!..Anyway I can pull down on mine and see the movement in the roof which is quite noticeable. On rough corrugations I think there would be a fair amount of flex (amount would depend on load of course).... I'd like to put my GoPro up there to video it...Think I'll do that...The Gobi with the leg mounted closer to the door obviously give the whole thing much more strength. The Thule cross bars (made for the WK2 models without OE chrome rails but have decorative black strips) clip onto the door area also.

Thats my car love it we loaded with snow last weekend and it lasted till i got home, easy access with rear ladder and i can get up there no issues im over 90kg
Very happy with it , definitely need the deflecter for noise

I have the full rocky road adventure rack with the spare tire mounted and light bar and jerry holders and shovel axe and hi lift holder. It is solid as a rock! I'm sure that the load limit is for stability while driving. However I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind seeing photos of the deformed roof if possible.
