They should have done what every clown that gets bogged without recovery equipment does. Get on Facebook and ask for help from someone that knows what they are doing.

Nanook, their only tool was broken... they didn't have mobile reception!
I have been stuck like that, once or twice, with no tools, in the middle of nowhere. (somewhere in FNQ between Bloomfield & Cooktown and out camping somewhere towards Mt Garnet I think), back when I had my Chrysler Gallant 1600 wagon (probably 25 years ago, now). Did I panic, wander off? Nope. I looked around, found a big stick & some rocks & got myself unstuck.

They did eventually get reception after they went off looking for it a second time.
Some one would have eventually turned up.
Back when I used to maintain a recompression chamber we treated a guy who tried to kill himself by sucking exhaust fumes.
He drove into the bush for miles so he wouldn't be found. He drove so far that after he set up the hose, his car actually run out of fuel before it could kill him.
A 4WD found him unconscious and got him medical assistance.

Good planning there!
As for the article: "Never let the truth get in the way of a good story"... Or research & verification of facts.

What are you getting worked up about? Have you never referred to a ballpoint pen as a bic or biro, or called a vacuum cleaner a hoover, regardless of who made it? Items are often generically known by the brand name of the first one on the market, which in this case was Jeep.
Now if he had called it a Jeep rather than a jeep, that would have been different!
