Default Car insurance.

Hi all, I’m hopefully getting my GC in the next month or two and I was wondering who everyone has car insurance with. I’m currently with AAMI, and although I’m happy with them the major issue is that they don’t have choice of repairer. Although saying that I’m happy with them is hard because I’ve been with them for 31 years and never had to make a claim. It would be good to hear of others choices, but good and bad. Also if you have choice of repairer or not. Thanks.

I was with AAMI for a long time. I made 2 claims and got the loan car both times. I was very happy with them and the work that was done.

I switched to NRMA only because they give discounts if you have a few policies.

But you didn’t have choice of repairer?

I went Shannon’s so I could get a fair Agreed Value on my TJ considering all my accessories. Price was very decent.

I'm with the RAA, little pricey, but choice of repairer, loan car, roadside assistance and all built in, hotel for a few nights paid for if in the bush, tow truck and lots of random shit that our other one with CGU didn't have.
They sold me at the free windscreen claim, especially how expensive the sucker would be on a WK2 and how easily they can get smashed in the bush.
We switched our house to them too, and get a discount due to our daughter working there.

With NRMA ,value of 2010 WH down nearly $2000.00 in a year .premium up 13% no claims ever except screen.Excuse more vehicles stolen in our area ,plus age of vehicle re parts availability.Plus excuse with so many senors on bumpers etc repair costs rise. Also be warned re chinese replacement screens.Had chinese front screen replaced in 2012 GC Overlander in NZ at xmas by Smith and Smith, same company as Obriens here.Belgium company owns them both. From previous experience asked them to dry fit to see how screen fitted frame ,absolute joke over 1/8 inch difference one side to another, plus curvature of screen didnt follow turret curve. No other choice.I knew a guy at Pilkingtons quite a few years ago when they stopped making screens here, they tested chinese screens.Slightly thinner, much more brittle,ie stone chipped more easily, plus a lot of distortion on sides.Absolute crap still.!

I’ve had a gut full of AAMI. With my Crewman, valued at $2,200, my insurance has gone up to $938. Reasons being that apparently not many people look after them because they’re a Ute, and secondly because parts are hard to get. I argued with them that pretty much every part is a Commodore, but they insisted that the parts must state Crewman, which I’ve noticed that there is a huge mark up on. Exactly the same parts, even the serial numbers, but worded differently. F#kin idiots. Any excuse. And it’s annoying because I drive only 12,000k’s a year and the cars lock up at night in a secured garage and during the day at work in a secured underground car park that has cameras everywhere plus security guards. I treat my car well, and it looks brand new both inside and out. Just because others treat theirs like crap then why should I suffer? 31 years I’ve been insured with AAMI and never made a claim and they don’t even give me a discount. My wife’s Captiva is valued at $20,000 more and the insurance is $200 a year less. How the hell do they come up with their prices? I hate all insurance companies, but unfortunately they are a necessary evil. Also, how much are GC windscreens? I’ve noticed some of you guys are saying they’re not cheap.
