Default Battery Draining

Hi all.
1999 WJ owner here, having an annoying problem of my battery going flat for what seems no apparent reason. Battery will be fine for a week then all of a sudden it has gone flat overnight. The interior lights are off and keys out of ignition. Have checked to make sure charging is normal can't understand why it goes flat. Also battery is only about 9 months old.
Thanx in advance for any info

Scott

Check for power drain at batt. Turn of all devices (incuding eng bay light) disconnect batt neg terminal & connect multimeter set to amps between the two.

Sorry guys its not the bonnet light as I have that disconnected. Checking the battery daily whilst in car and car has not been used for 3 days I seem to be losing .2 of a volt on battery, maybe the battery is just cactus and not holding a charge. Just would like to confirm if it is the battery before forking out a couple of hundred dollars on a new one and then find out it is something else.

Take it to a battery place or auto elec mate, they can put the battery under load and tell you in a minute what state it's in. The other sneaky power drain to check is the glovebox light, the switch on the glovebox lid is pretty dicky and can stay on... you wont know the light is on as the glovebox is closed.

Thats why you do batt discharge test, theres a few sneaky places power can drain, even bad alt. diode.
Best way to be sure is disconnect batt, leave for 3 days then reconect & try.
If its still flat then get new batt, if not start looking for drain.
