3.0L V6 CRD Longivity
Hi all,
Have a 09 Commander with the above power plant thats done 145k, only had issue with Glow Plugs at 102k. I'm considering upgrading my 82 Cherokee to a 07 Grand with 245k on the clock.
I've had little trouble with the Merc engine, but is there any thing to be concidered at higher mileages?
Thanks Graham.

I had '08 CRD Grand and traded it at 235K, When traded it had issues with fan motor U/S, which caused the aircon condensor to split, ABS brake module needed replacing, Glow plug control module U/S, Front diff bushes U/S (third set), No low range (N23 debacle) , replaced glow plugs at about 200k.
Had I got rid of it at 200k, I would have thought it was a great vehicle, but things went down hill at around there.

Hang on, question was about motor. Glow plugs being replaced only thing on your list that relate directly to motor. I'd say given glow plugs wear out, that reinforces motor pretty good even at 235k. Fan motor perhaps related too.
Diff bushes could be wear and tear if lots of off-roading. No low range well documented and while Jeep's fault not a motor issue and now resolvable.

I have an 06 with 220000km
The motor is the second best thing about these Jeeps, the first being Quadradrive.
Owned since 130000km
Engine wise I have:
replaced glow plugs (& module)
water pump
belt & pullies
Filters & oil (average every 7000km)
All I consider normal maintenance requirements.
It's the transmission at those km you will have to be weary of. Mine needs some TLC, but again I don't see this (considering its age, km & abuse I have given the old girl) to be unusual.

Just some added info...
Some of the ones Ive serviced since new now have high 200K, 300K plus, with the best now at 420K and still going strong..
Repairs on customers vehicles over the years, from common to least common;
*Lower control arms (as with plenty of other brands).
*front prop shaft CV joint on transfer case end (a Jeep thing).
*front diff rubber mounts.
*intake seal fails.
*replacement of two fuel lines (to and from filter).
*fuel solenoid. (as with plenty of other common rail diesels)
*Glow plugs. (as above).
*Glow plug control module.
*transfer case motor failure.
*FCA software update on the transfer case 'service 4wd system" fault, etc.
*water pump.
*Swirl motor fault.
*turbo failure.
Prolly one of the most (if not THE most) reliable model.
Regards
Daz
