Default HID / Projector headlights

I've been looking into HID / Projector lights for my wife's Peugeot and have ordered some to see how they go. Anyway this started me thinking how cool would these be in the KK? Did a bit of searching and found some interesting stuff. Looks a bit out-there visually (like a robot Jeep) but the light performance is greatly improved over factory.

This one above is custom painted, the picture below from a KJ might give a better idea. Painting the reflector is entirely optional, I'd probably keep it all chrome myself.

Has anyone just tried sticking a H4 HID in the KK for kicks? Did it push out any stray light that would deem it illegal? Was the result a substantial improvement?

Something to think about...

Ive been looking into it since i bought the jeep and noticed how pathetic the stock lights are at night. Just havent committed either way. I was a click away from buying bulbs. Still will when i get back to it i think

If the car is not fitted with self leveling for the headlights then HID is illegal period.
If that does not worry you, then go for it as they look pretty good and I'm sure that performance wise they will crap all over standard .........just make sure you adjust them right not to blind others .........

Let me rephrase that to "illegal". I'm only concerned that there is no excess glare to other drivers. Apparently the current JKs have better cut off with HID than they do with OEM halogens. Worth a try in the KK, failing that they could always be used in some spotties.

I used to sell these in the UK.(projector lights and hid kits for OEM lamps).

Scatter is much less than halogen, visibility is vastly improved.

Biggest problem with any lighting is poor fitting and adjustment by the owner.

Avoid the purple colours etc up to 12000k(and attract the revenue collectors, plod ! ) 4300 is OEM VW and white.

Kits we used to sell are from OTTO lighting, full kits were about 45 quid but decent ballasts.

Hi all,
I have been looking at this issue for a while now, the stock lights on the KK are no good, so i have fitted a set of HID 55w spots 5200 one spread one spot to the front and wired them to the high beam, the diffrence really is day/night. I know it is illegal to fit HID head lights to the KK, but it's no good if you can't see?. so i thought i would give the spotlights a go. but, they have to be adjusted properly or you will blind yourself with all the reflective signs.lol

I used to sell them too. Very happy with HID H4 35W 6000K and HID converted Lightforce with 55W 6000K.

Anything higher than this colour temp and you lose performance due to the colour being too blue (8000K +) and as said above also attracts more unwanted attention. 4300K looks like standard halogen and 6000K looks like midday sunlight.

55W or higher as your main lights may also attract unwanted attention.

If getting H4 kits, get one that is "hi/low". They use the one gas 'globe' and it is moved back and forth by a solenoid. This means that high beam on and off is instant when your lights are already on.

Also be careful of any imported headlamp replacement kits (such as projectors) as they will likely be dipped for left hand drive markets unless explicitly advertised as RHD.

Be mindful of local laws and good luck!
