Default KL trailhawk rims

My new Trailhawk arrives Monday and I am contemplating sticking a set of Duratracs on it. Problem is the 'Matching spare tyre' is on a steel rim... not impressed for that amount of money (only just found this out).

The user manual states that the wheels must be rotated regularly to maintain even wear so as not to put undue stress on the drive train so with a steel spare it can not be rotated too.

So what happens when in the middle of nowhere and main tyres are half worn and you have to run the unused spare for a few thousand k's with a van in tow??

I really would love to have a big winge to FCA but I doubt it will result in anything (and cant find a contact email address..). Has anyone tried buying a new rim in Aus? Dealer suggested I keep an eye on ebay..........

I asked about it.

I heard something like "$1500"

I coughed loudly, and moved on. I reckon I could get 5 alloy rims for that...

Hmm... it would be fine if I was keeping the stock size tyres!

First-time poster here (but I've been hanging around for a while)...

SeaComms, you can quite easily purchase another Trailhawk rim from any Mopar retailer. The part # is 1UT911XFAA. I've just purchased a whole set to fit on my new diesel KL.

I used Mopar America. Not cheap, but much cheaper than sourcing through the dealer. And delivery took less than a week!

I would think under Australian consumer law that the dealer would have to sell you one. They are obligated to have a reasonable supply of spare parts. No doubt it would be extremely expensive. Nissan charges something like $800 for a patrol alloy. Jeep would be more expensive I imagine.

If you wanted to be really difficult you could ask what to do when tyres are worn and you get a flat. It's all bs arse covering. I think they would use lack of tyre rotation to try and deny warranty claims.

I have been told well in excess of $1k... I have sent an email to the dealer (a polite one) referring to the owners manual where it states the tyres must be rotated regularly to avoid uneven wear amd consequently damaging the drive train and asked how this equates to an unmatched spare givennit will not be rotated. They have escalated it to their Chrysler rep and will see what comes.

I have jo objection to buying one but at a reasonable price, not the over inflated rubbish they are quoting. Worst case I will buy one from the US.

My local tyre shop charges $20 to fit and balance a tyre. Surely you could swap the rubber over that way a save a bunch over the life of the tyre. Yes, Jeep should provide a factory alloy, just looking at least expensive options, rather than 1k on a new wheel
