Default 1982 Cherokee lift options

Hi all, I'm looking at options for lifting my 1982 Cherokee. From what I can see the best (only) options are available from the US. According to the Qld dept transport I am legally permitted to lift 50mm suspension, 50mm tyres and 25mm body for a total 125mm. If I elect to stay within the legal boundaries my only option would be the BJ Offroad 2" all spring and increasing my tyre size from 235/75 R15 to 265/75 R15. The BJ kit runs at $875USD and will cost about $550 to ship via sea freight to Brisbane plus domestic shipping from BJ's to the freight forwarder.

The other options outside the legal parameters are the Rough Country 3", 4" Skyjacker, 4" BDS, BJ 4" and Rustys 4".

The nice thing about the 3" Rough Country kit is its only $669 USD and ships free to the freight forwarder. The downside is its reported to be a very stiff/rough ride. I think a 3" lift would be ideal if I could get away with it. I don't intend to do any serious off-roading, maybe a few beach/surf/fishing tracks, Frasier Island, Rainbow beach etc.

Does anyone have any experience with any of the above kits? Is the 3" rough country really too rough? I've read it's not too bad with the right shocks e.g. Bilstein 5125. If the 3" is a back breaker would I get away with one of the better riding 4" kits like Skykacker Softride or BDS or would this be too much for our diligent protectors of the open roads?

Thanks in advance....

All depends on if you want to be legal, a spring over is probably the most cost effective, it will retain your stock flexy springs, but you will only need to change your shocks and steering. Obviously fabrication would be needed.

Hi Jimbo, thanks for the reply. I think the SOA would probably be too much as I've read it give about 5" of total lift using the OEM springs. Have you ever heard or had any experience with the Rocklaurence Front Spring Shackle Reversal and rear lift blocks? https://rocklaurencevintageautoparts...ackle-reversal

It seems like a pretty simple installation, would keep me legal and shipping cost out of the US would be much less than the full Spring kits.
