I,m not sure what diffs are in the jeep at the moment, I guess if I measure from drum to drum, I can identify width, as for model type is there any identifying features I should look for?, the front diff is offset to the drivers side, the rear is in the centre.
If you have a centred rear diff (AMC20) then you probably have the Dana300 t/case. Theres a few companies that make adapters for the D300 to many transmissions Advance Adaptors & Novak being just 2 of the "bigger" brands.

Present Jeep to engineer with 33" tyres and prove speedo is correct, sometimes the engineer with ask for upgraded brakes sometimes not.
In extreme cases the engineer may ask for braking or swerve tests but rarely for 33"s.

Thanks to all that offered advice, not going ahead with purchase of CJ7, way too much rust in the body for me. If anyone else is interested have a look on Gumtree under CJ7 coupe. At this stage the guys is selling it as an incomplete car, i.e in need of a tranny and motor (and a few other bits).
