Lift Kit Experiences.
Hi Jeepers,
Let me preface this by saying Im opening a can of worms here!
Toying with the idea of getting a lift kit and some off road tyres to turn my mall runner into something a bit more suited for my camping/offroad trips.
I am aware of the upgrades (Double Cardan Front Driveshaft and probably replacing all bushings would be a good idea) required if you lift above 2inches and the legality/safety of such.
Has anyone out there had experience with 3inch or 4inch lift kits from Iron Rock Offroad, Clayton or similar suppliers in the USA?
I am ultimately looking at a setup with : 3 inch lift with roughly 31inch All Terrains to keep it legal as per 75mm total lift in NSW.
Am i better off just going for a 2inch lift and leaving the driveshaft and cutting the fenders with 31s
Cheers!!

If you go with a 3 or 4" lift you'll have heaps of drivability and mechanical issues if you don't fit a longarm kit. Also engineering approval and insurance will be problematic too.
It can be done but it will cost.

I Have a 1.5" or 2" oldman emu lift in my wg when i bought it. Added 2" coil spacers. Well.... I learnt alot. Rears are still in but the front are out. The death wobble was incredible! I believe once you start to creep past the 2" mark the panhard rod ( track rod whatever you want to call it) needs to be replaced with an adjustable one as it will fight itself. It destroyed my panhard bushes in under 100km. Installed new bushes thinking it was the issue. It wasn't. Removed the front spacers and no death wobble! Everything was nice and tight again. Just something to think about with these things and their death wobble issues. In my experience if you are going to lift it above 2", do some digging and research, adjustable panhard rods are hard to find in rhd, there is a place in America that do them but $$$$. who want's to buy some coil spacers

Agree, I am still struggling to find some root cause of my suspension issues. I have the Ironrock lift kit with the long arms and the adjustable A-arm in the rear.
I am not sure what kind of lift I have but I assume it is either 4 or 5 inches. Have to mention that the lift kit was already installed when I got the Jeep.

Cheers for the replies guys. So I think I may be best at avoiding spending thousands on trying to chase a few inches of lift. In terms of 2 inch lifts setups can anyone offer any advice? Would probably go IRO, but then I see their adjustable trackbars only are for 4inch and higher on the CRD WJs (Me). Don’t want the issues u speak of Lachy91. 2inch lift and bushwacker flares (got some free with vehicle) should clear 31s and be practical I reckon.

Many Laredo's and Overlands had a factory upcountry suspension which was approx 2inch lift over the stock limited model heights. I have wrecked a few and the Laredo lift is around 1.5inch and the overland is around 2inches as they used different springs and shocks. Maybe you want to get he parts through that avenue and decide what you prefer.

I had a 2" king spring lift with rancho adjustable shocks, worked fine apart from being a little boaty with the handling. i think this kit was 2" taller than the upcountry suspension.
I now have the IRO 4" premium long arm kit, which measures at 1" taller than the king spring lift, lots of $$$$ involved but out handles any 4wd i have every driven on and off road.
