I find mine can a prick of a thing to get a consistent reading i find it best to leave over night and check on the first pull.
I also find mine will burn/use the top half of the dipstick every time, so i have been leaving it and it doesnt use anymore, so on my last oil change i only filled it up to about half on the dipstick and it hasn't used any at all. so i figured it must be to full if you fill it to the max line.

That's interesting, and leads back to the comment where Penrite net lube have changed fill qty from 9.5 to 8.5l.

Oil change yesterday after Qld trip.Let drain for 30 minutes ,new filter ,put in 9 litres of oil,left overnight oil level just over plastic marker on dipstick.Unless oil is wicking up the dipstick this should be a correct reading!
