Default Tyre pressure sensors

Sorry if this has been addressed previously but can't find any info. I have a 2014 Grand Cherokee Limited with 20 in wheels. Looking at fitting aftermarket 18s with off road tyres to maintain similar overall diameter. Have 2 inch lift. I have been told that if I don't fit new pressure sensors, the dash message will light up constantly warning me that all tyres are flat. Dealer can't tell me if the warnings stay on the whole time or only upon start-up. If the latter, I can live with it but if constantly on, it would be rather annoying. Dealer has quoted $135 per sensor and that aftermarket sensors won't pair up with the onboard computer system. I want to keep both sets of wheels and don't want to swap sensors across to new tyres. Factory wheels and tyres are great for highway driving. Has anyone had any experience with this matter. Help appreciated.

The system will detect the sensors and their wheel position after a short drive mate. The dealer is talking shit and the correct aftermarket sensors will work just fine.

Also, after a few cycles without sensors the Jeep should go into winter mode (in manual) and it stops nagging you altogether, may require a battery disconnect as well as also happened to me. Was going to install another set, but last Chinese were okay save the 6 year old date stamp, hence new old stock and had to take them back out again. As flat batteries included!

As what Troutman said too, they just auto set, and each has a seven digit code and is read and recorded in eeprom until a new sensor starts talking and it updates automatically as no rocket science here. dealer is definitely speaking dribble and just wants your money. Also it’s the most common question they get so they know they are speaking dribble as well. Classic Jeep, owner experience is not the same as driving them eh

Many thanks for your comments. I think that I will go with the aftermarket tyres and 18's. I will buy some aftermarket sensors as I can see some on ebay substantially cheaper than original equipment. Nothing to lose really. Looking forward to more personalising on the beast. 🙂

Anyhow, take a look at the car's manual. Good luck!
