I have the same error codes on my 2.7. The P0836 is the code for 4x4 switch which sits on top of the transfer case. The P0702 is for the power control module, you could be getting this code due to the P0836. The P240D is the Transfer case switch error. The website that silycr mentioned for the software has alot of information on the WJ jeeps that you can read including a list of error codes

JeepHawk, do you get the MIL on intermittently as well? I had forgotten to add previously that these codes have existed since I bought the Jeep a month or two ago, but the MIL is a new addition.

I went out over the weekend for my first serious 4wd adventure in 25 years and had it up to the top of the bumper in muddy/silty water. The water was over the lower door sills yet only about a teaspoon leaked in - great seals! Great mates too, who didn't make me open the door to get out and help. I was stuck there for about 15 minutes until I got snatched out (hung up on the high crown and left a nice croc slide on the way out). Long story - it just looked like a small puddle on a flat track! It wasn't. Other than this, the old stock girl did as well as much newer relatively stock 'luxes and BT50's, but not quite as well as a modded Prado of similar age.

Anyhow, back on topic, I'm wondering if silty water has gotten somewhere it shouldn't have.

I'l read up on this switch on the transfer case, but it sounds like it's fairly common error code. Does anybody know what it actually does, or what is the consequence of it not working?

The other bit of info - it does not seem to be going into limp home mode. However, the light only comes on for a few seconds, so it is hard to tell. Having a bit of a play on the way home last night, the MIL goes out if I go to zero throttle. If I slowly increase throttle, it also goes out at a moderate load. It is only at light throttle it comes on.

I have had the MIL light come on intermittently and the only error code that I had was the P0836. At the moment I have a P0243 wastegate solenoid error im trying to sort out so my MIL light is constantly on. You may have got some water into the contacts of the switch or in the cable loom where you may possible have cracks in the insulation of the wires and the water might be shorting the circuit. I would start by cleaning the plug and the switch with penetrant spray, check for any water that might run out of the wire loom. Clear the codes and see if any of them come back.

Thanks for that. I'll get her up on ramps and have a poke later today.

Where is the switch? On top of the transfer case?
