Frothy coolant
Hi Guys
Other day went to check my coolant after a shirt run and it was all frothy, no oil or dirt any where but frothy. Currently not running a Tstat, but thinking it could be something like blown head gasket? Anyone seen this?

I was of the understanding that the coolant velocity is too fast when the thermostat is removed, and could then contribute to excessive coolant temperatures. In a similar connection... could it cause the coolant to froth up from agitation?
Cheers, Steve

You might also have a massive air bubble. Did you open the bleed valve on top and run it until no more bubbles came through, it's takes ages?

Blown head gaskets usually show as bubbles blowing in your coolant.
And a caramel milk shake under your engine oil filler cap from coolant mixing with oil and cylinder gases..
Don't know much about Jeep cooling systems - but the thermostat certainly provides a flow restriction in the system and the pump is there to overcome this.
Frothing would usually indicate that there is some air getting in there soemwhere? Low coolant level? Cavitating water pump?
Be intersting to see if the frothing goes away when you get the new thermostat in there.

There is also another possible cause for frothing in the coolant, and that is if the coolant is weak, as in not enough concentrate and too much water. The higher concentration of coolant not only prevents corrosion but increases the viscosity reducing cavitation within the system, especially the pump. The recommendation is a min of 50% coolant, and a maximum of 75% from memory.

Yep have done it twice and no air seems to come out after a while.
Also have a pretty strong coolant mix at about 70 % concentrate
