Egr replace or delete
Hi All
Have a 2015 Overland Diesel, currently showing EGR stuck open and a possible coolant leak at the cooler. Getting throttle control light on with reduced power and P0299 low turbo boost.
Car will not do a regen, Jeep have tried to do a forced regen unsuccessfully.
Jeep quoted $6500 to replace cooler and valve, can buy on eBay for $2000.
Should i fix or delete EGR completely, will it then do a regen.
Thanks any advice appreciated.

I would steer well clear of any dealership. Its NOT money well spent at all. Deleting the EGR on these engines is a very tricky affair and overall not recommended. Definitely get the coolant leak at the cooler sorted. Use a good deisel mechanic for that job...or DYI if competent....recent threads on that job on here....hard to say why a forced regen cannot be performed...computer tells engine to do it and electrickery makes it happen...give Jeeps'r'Us or All Grand Cherokee a call with the details and ask for their input...you should get answers....dont keep seeking dealer advice, they havent helped so far and wont do anything other than trial n error at your expense....dont leave out the 'wont/cant do a forced regen' info in your calls to the above 2 Guru's....you may have an unresolved issue that a dealer hasnt even looked at yet...maybe the DPF is history ????

Agree. The main purpose of the EGR is to lower combustion/exhaust gas temperature so that NOx emission is reduced or eliminated. This reduces engine efficiency, reliability and performance but does clean up the more dangerous emissions. It is a prick of a thing but so integrated into the proper function of modern CRD engines that to delete EGR requires a proper ECU re tune.

There was a recall in the US for this problem ie EGR cracking and maybe causing a fire! 2014-17 plus a Recall in Australia for 27- 19 models. For the same problem!
It appears same part no for 2014 to 19 .Have a crack at FCA. ! Looks like a few genuine Mopar ones complete for around $1200.00 Aust.

As stated find a proper mechanic, you haven't mentioned where you are but using a dealer just means they scan then replace components till they get it right costing you time and money and may not resolve the issue.......
Threads are on here detailing the replacement of the EGR.
http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...d.php?t=157582
Soot in the coolant will confirm you have a leaky EGR cooler ... The DPF issue may resolve once the EGR is sorted as they work together.

I agree 100% re not going to a dealer re getting work done on these vehicles!
However there have been numerous pretty serious software updates including
auto, engine mangement etc that only Jeep factory scan tools can perform!
Eg If your crank sensor fails independant mechanics can not do the software update. Most of these updates are done at dealer services.

Agree for sure, just need to tap in ViN here https://www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehic...ls/search.html and you can see then book into a dealer if you think its a practical recall.... about the only time I use a dealer, well none with in cooee anyway.
