Why not just use the correct Bosch seals the honda ones are a fair bit thicker and may stuff the injector pattern up. If installed correctly you will get at least 100,000km and they are easy enough to get at,,just did some the other day myself.

The tell tail sign is you smell exhaust (with a hint of diesel) coming through the air vents at idle.
If you start to smell this don't just ignore it as the fix will become harder the longer you delay.

Now you can fix this 2 ways.
1 Merc copper seal
or
Honda HONDA CIVIC 2.2 CTDi DIESEL INJECTORS SEALS

The Honda seals are a bit thicker but are softer so they seat the same but make a better seal (or that's what the UK Merc guys say).

I fitted the Honda one tonight and it appears to have done the job.

I will post again if it fails but I reckon its sweet.

The clean-up is a bitch so as I said fix it straight away.

To find which injector it was I dribbled a bit of water around each injector, the blow by instantly sprayed the water everywhere so its not hard to diagnose.

Because the seat mayn't be perfect anymore 300,000k's of wear and the correct seal are common for causing black death, the solution is to run ones from bosch injector's out of a civic as they are the same just .44mm thicker.

It's just something i want to avoid doing again, if done correct it should last the life of the injectors mine are original seals none leak just the injector don't have much more to offer and while i have the whole top of the motor apart why not do them.

I have read of a number of times where crds ran badly after injectors had new seals fitted and in the end it was found that one or more injectors were sitting on two seals and this was causing a bad spray pattern. This was accidentally left in during the resealing job.The standard seal is 1.56mm so injector height is fairly critical to good fuel ecconomy and power.Any squashing down of the seal will probably happen to any seal so it still leaves the injector at a different height in the cylinder to the original engine design. Obviously if you recut the seal seats this is a different situation and thicker seals are available in 0.2mm increments. Anyway which ever way you go hope the end result is good, cheers.

Cheers for the input it makes good sense, with 2 seals that would make a massive difference.

I have heard plenty of times that the honda seals work better, i will speak to my cousin (pretty sure i know which way he will lean) as he is a merc diesel mechanic and one of his guys is a om642 specialist.
