Do you guys have road salt in the winter?
The axle nuts on mine came out just fine with an air impact gun and we get a lot of salt on the roads in the winter.
I never imagine Australian cars could have problems with corrosion but the copper anti sieze is idea is good

I live in Queensland. It has been 34 degrees Celsius for most of today (~94 degrees Fahrenheit). We do not have a road-salt problem in these parts. I'm not sure about the southern states.

It's the beach/sea salt here that causes corrosion.

Thanks for the comment about the axle. I was a bit concerned, not about the nut, but getting the axle to release from the splines of the hub. It looks like it has not been apart for 14 years, but is sounds like it's not going to be an issue. I'll find out next weekend.

Changed the hub this arvo. It was a breeze. The axle just pushed out with my thumbs as I worked the hub off. I undid the axle nut before i jacked the wheel off the ground, and put it back on at the end again with the wheel back on the ground. The hardest thing was the top caliper bolt. It was not all that bad, it just needed a bit of encouragement on the end of the spanner initially (mild wraps with a 2lb mini-sledge).

I used the disc rotor as a slide hammer - put it on back-the-front, spun the wheel nuts on a few turns and banged the rotor against the nuts. I did not need to use much force at all to release the hub from the knuckle.

My Grand Cherokee is soooo quiet now!

Hello Jean,

Let us know how the yum cha hub goes. I did that once

It had play in it from the beginning and got worse very quickly. Within 7,000km it was toast. Keep in mind there was a lot of mud, ruts, roots, bash bash bash bash in those 7,000

I then put Timkens in, from RockAuto. Zero play.

Hopefully you have a better experience than me with the yum-chas

Thumbs up Hahaha

This made me laugh Jean, because it probably sums up everything on my GC and my perception.

I'm glad someone spotted that quip!

I'll certainly post back if I have any grief from the yum-cha bearing hub. Note that I purchased it from a reputable bearing supplier who offered 12 months / 20,000km warranty.

I've actually used the boiled frog analogy a bit lately for other people . It applies to me also though.

I got a repco unit bearing, I think they give 12 mths on theirs too, but someone would have to verify.

Mine probably failed at 12mths 1wk
