Default strange shifting behaviour

I went to town today and had it 2 times that my transmission was acting strange. Typically it switches gears around 2000 to 2500 rpm depending how I put the pedal to the metal. However, today I had to rev up to almost 4000 rpm before it changed the gears. Also when I was slowing down it switched to early to a lower gear so that it almost felt I was hitting the breaks.
Once I got to a stop and switched the engine off and on again, all was good. I checked for error codes but nothing, except my ABS issue (rear right wheel, which I changed with another sensor which was even worse than the one I had, plannig to try another one I have the next couple of days). Any idea what this could be?

Sounds like it has gone into the low-range mapping. Check the output from the transfer case position sensor via WJ Diag to see if it matches. That says, it should throw transmission slip errors if that's the issue.

Thanks JeanLuke. Well, this might make sense since i got transfer case position errors reported but they have not been up for a couple of weeks now. And it was not there yesterday either since I checked. I was under the assumption that this might have been related to the shifter board.

I will change my transfer case anyway to a NP242 and on this I have another sensor installed. Hope this would then solve the issue although it is certainly a couple of months down the road.

Is this on the 4.7?
Back when I had mine it did all sorts of weird stuff when the TPS went out, shifts started like you're describing then went crazy

Thanks for the feedback Grippy but this is for the CRD. My V8 does not exist anymore, well it does but only in bits and pieces.

I had the shifter board replaced a couple of months ago and until this incident the transmission was working flawless. I suppose that JeanLuke is right. I had a couple of error codes regarding the transfer case position sensor.

From experience, once you start getting these random TC sensor errors, it is on the way out and will eventually fail. You may get a few more months yet, but failure will come. It won't be sudden. It will start throwing the errors more and more often until it becomes really annoying. Time to order a spare and keep it in your garage to be ready.

Do not buy the Dorman one. I used the PT Auto TCS-64 after two DoA Dorman ones. The one I got seems not to be available anymore. It was installed Feb 2020 - over 2 years and 50,000km ago.

RockAuto have a Standard Motor Products one. I've used that brand elsewhere with success.

Mine:

Mopar part number is 5083138AA. I've had one of them and it only lasted just over a year.

I guess you are right. Will have to change it sooner or later. I might try the one I have on my NP242 till the one you have installed is available again or get the SMP once I am order something from Rockauto again.
