It looked ok to me and came in a genuine AEV box which he opened in front me. They are the first generation ones though.

I got it as a spare so it will only be used in emergencies as I carry a tyre repair kit with me.

Got sick of having bad comms with the UHF antenna that was fitted on the swing out tyre carrier by previous owner, so fitted new GME antenna to the front and new Uniden remote head unit. Have the main body and mic. connection fitted to the underside of the plate mounting the Infinty amp.
Works perfectly now.
Tried it out over the weekend wheeling between Toolangi and Narbethong. There was still heaps open, checked all the relavent park and forest websites and marked the closed tracks on our maps beforehand. All the closed tracks were either gated and/or well signposted.
Third photo was taken after we went through it on 'No help track' or 'Not much help track', (dependant on map). Apologies for the resolution.

What difference would there be with the mounting location seeing as they are both on the same plane?

No criticism intended just curios as to why on the front bar would be better than the the rear bar tyre carrier?

Just watch it if you do corrugations etc, thin wall steel will fatigue quickly with a vibrating weight on the top.

Cheers

With older 27MHz antennas that were ground plane dependent it would make a lot of difference to the radiation pattern. With UHF, though, the antennas are ground independent, mostly, so it is just a matter of it being clear of metalwork in the plane of the antenna. The 'elevated feed' at the base of the antenna is the ground plane.

Putting it on the front if it needs a ground plane, means the radiation pattern is primarily to the rear so you can talk to people who are further behind you. Useful if you are taking the JK out with people who were not as perspicacious as to buy a Jeep.

None taken. For me, shorter route with no joiner needed, and no tight radius bends. It was a ground independant base on the swingarm but the wiring was very tight and run parallel with alot of extra ancillary power wiring with a few tight bends. Also it hit my garage door on the way in. I'd just never had good comms with 2 different head units, (mine and a mate's) and 3 different whips, so the front was easier.
