Talking "I baught a Jeep"

Hi all my first post and yes I finally bought a jeep despite almost every one I now advising against it.

It is a 1999 WJ GC limited with 4.7 V8, 230K on clock, runs like a dream and sure is nice to drive.

Overall it is in great condition and all it took to pass NSW rego was a new windscreen and drivers side mirror glass, off course there are a few small things to fix up but hey it is a 25 year old car. Every thing works as it should including the Quadradrive although I have the front shaft out to rebuild the CVs, near new AT tyres and unmarked NON leather interior, no shakes, rattles or wobbles and the transmission is smooth as silk.
I think I got a bargain at $3.5K and I did not want to spend much more on something that is essentially a toy for ME ( the wife has her Swift )

One thing I am confused about with this model is the exhaust, my research has lead me to believe there should be two small pre cats followed by a larger main cat and muffler and there should be a total of four oxygen sensors, mine only has two oxygen sensors and does not have the pre cats, I have done an OBD scan and every thing is fine.
I did find a diagram some where else showing this set up and it stated that the pre cats where only on the models for California US to meet there pollution regulations, I am not to sure what the Australian models got from factory, mine is an 08/1999 build so it is one of the first I think and I am starting to think it may have not had the pre cats, all the mechanic did for the rego inspection was have a look underneath and seen a cat there and passed it, all the RTA did was accept that he passed it, I think the EPA would look at it differently though. I had a look at a 2002 GC and it had the pre cats but that was a 2002 that had a few minor changes here and there.
I do not see any point in putting them cats when there are no oxygen sensors and it would through every thing else out and since it only has two oxygen sensors I don't think it ever had them.
Any input on this would be a great help.

Also can any one tell me what size the flange is on the exhaust manifold, my two down pipes are 50mm (2 inch) but the 2002 I looked at was 62mm ( 2.5 inch) believe me I can not find this simple information anywhere on line, I do not want to pull mine apart until I have all I need to build a new exhaust, the exhaust on it is a bit ordinary and I want to run a 3 inch stainless system through it, would love to put some Murchison headers on but gosh i am not building a comp truck.

Is any one here on the central coast NSW ( Umina Beach here ) , I am not new to off roading but it has been many years and none in the last six years I have been living here, I am from West Gippsland, Victoria originally and no my way around there very well but not the Central Coast, at least not off road, I have heard there is a lot great wheeling to be had around here but not to sure where to start.

Well I guess I have said enough for my first post and yes I do talk a lot so more to come.

Thanks and yeah its not a 4WD with no front shaft in it eh.

Does not hurt it though, all it does is make the Tcase drive the front yoke constantly, seen plenty with no shaft for 1000s of Ks and had no problems.

The only problems I have heard of are about the people getting stuck in the mud with no 4WD

Was the 02 you looked at an Overland, they have the high output engine which might explain the larger engine pipes.

I thought the HO engine only had the chrome tip on the pipe ?
and 25 years old ?
my 2002 and my 2000 had the exact same pipe , only diff was the 02 sensors , one had round (2000) the other had square pants connectors , and the clutch fan and hydro fan .
does your 99 model have the connectors for the 02 sensors ?
you say its a limited ? then if so why is there no leather ? do you have the grain in the doors ? heated seats ? so on ?

If you go to the "Everything 2.7CRD " sticky you will find a link which will lead you to an online manual for your rig which you can download for your model, the parts list link may also include yours as well.

Welcome to the diminishing WJ club!

I drove around without the front shaft for 3 weeks whilst waiting for the new one to arrive with no problems. Bent it driving into a sand wall at Stockton beach!!

Plenty of tracks there at Watagans. A couple of tracks are just not doable on a WJ so watch out.
