Default Simpson Desert fuel consumption

Hi all, we're planning to cross the Simpson from Mt Dare to Birdsville in a JK 2-door Sport 3.6 petrol in April and we're trying to work out how much fuel to carry. We'd be interested in knowing how much petrol others have used and what route/how many kilometres they travelled. There's a lot of general information about fuel consumption on the site, but does anyone have actual consumption figures for a petrol Sport doing the crossing???
Thanks!

Travelled East to West last Oct Birdsville to Mt Dare.
JKU 3.6 petrol and used 118L petrol.
Very similar consumption to both the 200 series V8 diesels. All had RTT.
Carried 2x 20L jerrys, this with the 85L JKU tank had me arrive with 7L to spare. I knew others had more range and could make run for me if needed.
15psi tyres, Hi4 and crazy nuts switch to reduce the traction controls. Never got stuck and led the whole way.
West side of dunes was very lumpy by October.

Thanks Thol, that's really helpful. We're thinking about using the Rig Road/WAA line route that adds up to about 550km from Mt Dare to Birdsville. I expect that we'll use about 120 litres but are planning on carrying 145. The tank only holds 70, so we'll be putting 3x25 litre jerrys on the roof rack.
Has anyone else taken a petrol across recently??

I've talked about doing the Simmo with some friends, would love to do it but think with the 4.7l WJ I'd need more than 200l.
What's the fuel consumption like with the Wranglers? In sand?

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, we're planning on a Birdsville to Mt Dare crossing in June/July this year - and was wondering the same thing.

We did a week long trip to Fraser island last year, and with the mix of hard sand driving, and soft sand driving we averaged 20L/100 km, in a petrol 3.6 auto sport, fully loaded with camping gear. Bit of extra weight with winch, steel front and rear bars, 2" lift, standard 32" AT tyres.

Here is a link to the first of a 4 part You Tube set of vids put together by a guy who did the crossing from West to East in a a petrol sport in 2017. Looked to be the 3.6 pentastar auto from the interior (could have been the last of the 3.8's though). He was packed pretty light, with the exception of the roof rack full of fuel.

30L in fuel bladders, and 80L in fuel drums on the roof, 70 in the tank = 180L all up.

By the time he reached Birdsville he estimated he used around 100L.

I saw another thread on ausjeep where there was a 3.8 unlimited also carrying around 180L all up "In terms of overall fuel consumption we used 105L (from Mt Dare to Birdsville – about 530ks)" (http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...Simpson&page=4)

And here is another regarding a 3.8 v6:

"I used 127 litres for our crossing along the French line from Mt Dare to Birsdville, that included about an hours worth of trying every line on Big Red. 3.8 manual V6 unlimited fully loaded. "

(only provided the 3.8 v6 as an upper limit as they tend to use more than the 3.6 v6).

Cheers,
Ben.

Doing between 20 and 25L on soft sand from my experience.
Limited load and skinny tyres. The long range tank was expensive but it's no practical... JK 3.6
