Default Roof Console for WK2

I have been looking around at different solutions to the whole "where will I put my UHF and brake controller" challenge and while I like some of the methods different people have come up with it occurred to me that a roof console would be an excellent way forward.

Alas my search for one was in vain! I contacted these guys http://www.consoles.com.au/ who have a good reputation in this field and this was their reply:

Unfortunately we do not have a pattern for the 2011 and on Jeep Grand Cherokee. If you are in Sydney, it may be possible for us to design and build a console for you but we would need to confirm this. If you would like to send us some photos of your interior's headlining we can then determine whether it'd be worth bringing you vehicle to us for further inspection.

If possible, we will require the vehicle for a few days for pattern work.

If you aren't in Sydney, I will add you name to a waiting list and we'll be in touch if a roof console becomes available. You may also wish to check our website www.consoles.com.au intermittently to check if we've added any new products for your vehicle.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to assist.

Best regards,
Matthew

Soooooo, is there anyone in Sydney (I'm not) who would be able to visit these guys so they can get the information they need to build a roof console for 2011 and on Grand Cherokee's?

I believe this may be an elegant solution to our gadget storage needs. From what I can gather they use existing fasteners (visor/console/grab handle etc securing screws) to secure their consoles, so no new holes.

Even if you are not available to visit, please touch base with them if you are interested in one so they can be made aware of the market for one. I will repost this in other forums to try and raise interest.

Cheers.

Glad you brought it up, I was thinking the same. I especially wasn't keen in putting holes in the dash for switches and the like. I am in Sydney so would be glad to go see them.

I like to have things functional but not seen. I've installed my GME TX3345 UHF radio main control box/speaker on the little shelf inside the passenger glove box, but above the box itself. I think it was made for the owners manual. Anyway it's a perfect fit, and I can hear it clearly with the glove box closed. Then I have the remote hand piece, with all the controls on it, installed inside the centre console. But this hand piece can be disconnected and stored elsewhere if I want. It mounts to a small junction connector box like a telephone plug. Everything you need comes with the unit.

As for the brake controller I went for a Red Arc remote brake controller. Yes a couple of very small holes were drilled in the dash, but it's very neat, and out of sight. Yet accessible if I need to press the brake control button or adjust. It's mounted just to the left of the headlight controls. Thanks to ozjeepster for his suggestion and pics. You can check it out here. http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/...ake+controller

G'day Chunky, if you'd like to drop him a line Matthew is keen to have a look at how viable it may be. I do like some of the mounting solutions that people have come up with, GeoffV here is a good example but the idea of a roof console appeals to me. It is a neat way to install gear with no loss of current storage areas and no extra holes.

Cheers

Nice, got some photos, build details or tips on how you mounted it?
