Default JKU CRD payload?

Hi All,

Thinking of getting a new JKU CRD Auto. It would have to handle daily as well as touring duties.
Now, as I'm doing my research on the payload capacity I've found the following for the JKU Sport CRD auto (off the Jeep Australia website):
Kerb weight: 2,173 kg
GVM: 2,585 kg

Am I right in calculating the payload to be only 412 kg (2,585 - 2,173 = 412)?

So, if I add some bar-work, roof-rack and family members (2 adults +2 kids) some luggage and I'd be on the limit in no time.

Is my calculation correct or have I missed something? Thanks.

I'm going through this dilemma myself. The payload is 558kg's

My add ons:
- Long ranger tank and fuel - 115kg
- Bullbar - 45kg
- Rear bar - 50kg
- Roof rack - 35kg
- Winch - 37kg
= 282 kg

Less, me, the wife, child, and two dogs. That leaves around 72kg.......you need to add ball weight of anything your're towing too.

I believe you can get an engineer to sign off on an increase with new suspension etc?

the J8 has a massive payload, and other than upgraded suspension, there is only some minor reinforcements to the chassis where the back connects to the front (that's my technical speak for you). I'd like to think I can get sign off for another 200-300 kgs easily enough with new shocks, springs, brakes, and air bags

edit: have a read of this: http://jalopnik.com/5201252/aev-j8-m...-for-civilians

According to your numbers the result would be (558 - barwork etc) = 276..?

Can I ask where the payload of 558kg comes from? The jeep website lists kerb weight for the CRD auto 2,173kg and that should include all fluids (oil, full tank, coolant etc). That would only leave 412 kg before reaching the GVM
Then as you mentioned adding bar-work, winch, 2" lift, tyres (these also add to the GVM), roofrack, passengers. Then I still need to add all the camping gear, chainsaw, water, fridge, food, clothing etc... it'll be tight, haha.

I think getting a sign-off from an engineer won't be that easy - GVM change needs to be added to the registration details by RMS (NSW); I suspect it isn't just shocks+springs but also the shock mounts, axle strength, brakes, stability program (ESP) and whatever else they come up with that would have to be "assessed".

Something has gone astray with my numbers somewhere....the gmv is 2585

....long story short, its border line as a touring vehicle.....my plan was to get one anyway and have the springs set accordingly

It'd be nice to do the axle upgrade too, but thats another go knows how much

Howdy from Sweden

My findings here indicate that the diesel have less payload than the petrol Pentastar and I think it is because the diesel engine is much heavier than the Pentastar.

My Wrangler unlimited Rubicon in Sweden with pentastar have a payload of 545kg, thats in the registration papers from the Government. I have looked at the registration papers at many diesels and they have much lower payloads.

2540kg-1995kg=545kg
