Default Brake Pads for WH

Hi everyone,

I'm getting ready for a 3-4 week trip with the van up from Newcastle to Cairns and beyond, so looking for some improvements to do to the WH.

I want to improve braking when towing. I have what I believe to be OEM pads and rotors, and the pads are just rubbish, even when driving unloaded and pushing the Jeep hard I get fade.

I don't want to upgrade rotors, I have slotted rotors on 2 of my other cars and while I enjoy the "bite" they give, I don't enjoy the noise. So I am looking for upgraded pads to go with the OEM rotors.

Any suggestions from members would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Robert

I feel bad that you haven't had a reply yet
I've been using Akebono ProACT ceramic pads on standard solid/vented rotors (RDA maybe?), and happy with them.

Didn't really notice the difference over stock with stock tyre size, but noticed the improvement once I towed a car float with larger tyres on.

I wasn't specifically looking for an improvement though, so couldn't say if they're better than average aftermarket.
Ceramic definitely isn't for serious high-stopping power, but the lack of brake dust is great

The harder the pad the more they chew out the rotors,
EBC greens fade resistant and low dust

Thanks guys.

I've heard good things about EBC, just not in an R/V type environment.

By the look of the EBC pads, they have a break in surface.

Is this designed to eliminate the need to skim the rotors on pad replacement, providing they aren't warped or the like?

Cheers,

Robert

NO!
Skimming rotors eliminates grooves, hot spots & warp.

Some dumb rule in Europe mandates emergency
braking tests straight off the production line.
Others include; negating test drives to bed in pads,
improved braking feel to prevent non-mechanics freaking out.

But quick bedding in is a main reason for this feature
(on new OEM rotors)

Cheers
