The only offroad purpose I see is to improve visibility and possibly protect them from damage, but then again a door might protect you from damage too, I'd rather have a dented door than a dented body.

And wear a seatbelt whilst on your bike....

Funnily enough though dave everytime i see your tj on the road it has doors and a roof on so im not sure why we are disputing it??

First Why - Cause i can. Cause I love the open air. Cause I like the extra visability. Cause it's a little lighter? Cause I like no doors on the trail and it's better than carting then in the back? Cause my farts smell? Cause I don't really care what others think? Cause it's easier to haul my fat butt into & out of it?
