Default Our camper build

I've been converting this poptop into a semi offroader for a while now and thought it was time to show you our progress. We had a tvan for a couple of years but found it to small for a family of four in wet weather, so the search was on for a replacement with a bit of inside living area, easy set up, small size and light weight to tow with the JK and be able to tow offroad altho not the places you would take a tvan this is what we started with.

We had a weekend away to cobram for easter last year before we did any mods and found a few things we wanted to change. The overall van was good being a 14' late 80's viscount seabreeze that had done very little traveling with a fold down couch at the front and a set of bunk's at the rear for the kids but a roll out awning would make life easier and we could fit walls to it for bad weather, I also wanted more ground clearance so did a SOA and fitted new brake hubs and 16" JK wheels with 265/75/16 bfg at's to match the tow vehicle and a vehicle components drop on 35 off road hitch, I also changed the rear and side lights to led's we also decided the loud stripes had to go so out with the heat gun and here's what we got.

looks great, killing the pin stripes certainly makes it look up to date. Any shots attached to the JK?

I also fitted larger fridge vent's and modern 12 volt inside lights, spare wheel and gas bottle holder's on the draw bar and we wanted more storage so I decided to remove the couch/bed and make a new higher bed base with a lift up lid also fitting an access door to the off side front, at the same time I fitted another door to the near side behind the axle as this is where the outdoor slide out kitchen will be located.

A few more pics of the almost finished bed I still need to add gas struts to the base as well as pics of the access doors and lights I have fitted, the van had 240 volt lights when we purchased it which had to go as we prefere bush camping with no power and don't want to listen to a generator, so I fitted 12 volt flourescent lights inside on the roof as well as 4 led reading lights for the bed and a led light outside over the kitchen

A few more pics in action on the cup weekend MJOC Wonnangatta trip (as featured in Jeep Action this month) it's first trip off road and it did better than I had expected with no problems getting into or out of the valley, electric brakes and plenty of ground clearance helped along with light weight.
