Sounds very similar to what happened to me. I wanted to buy a Defender and went in to have a look. I then looked at a 300 SRT as while I was there as a replacment for with my FPV GT as they are in the same yard. Ended up looking at the JK Wrangler while I was there and bought a cheap TJ a couple of months later. 12 months after that I bought the JK.

Still didn't buy the 300, just sold the GT.

Finally got the 68l auxiliary tank installed in the Rubi.
Brown Davis did a nice job and have used my install as a basis to build a kit for the 2012+ JKU petrol.
All up it was $1770 as a show special, not cheap but I like having 1000km range without impacting load capacity.
