Default KJ auto transmission oil level

Hello, i recently got a 2007 KJ petrol auto and I tried to check the oil level in the gearbox. It has the dipstick tube but instead of a dipstick it has a plug that says “dealer use only”. How can I check the fluid level???

If when you pull the plug there is no dipstick, you need to get one. If you cant, find another KJ petrol & measure the dipstick & make one. My 2007 is a manual CRD. My 2006 is also a CRD & it has a dipstick. We dont know if your 2007 petrol has the same auto trans as a 2006. It doesnt hurt to over fill them by a ltr or 2.

V6 Petrol engine used a different transmission (the 4 speed Ultradrive 42RLE) through 2007, the late model auto CRDs used the 545RFE (which is a very strong auto still used in the Hemi models today, albeit as 645RFEs now).

Many Chrysler auto transmission problems start when owners dump the wrong fluid into them, if you are going to self service then make sure you buy the correct fluid. I can speak from experience that dumping the fluid, changing filters, etc, can be a really messy job.

Thanks for your input guys, I'll try to find a dipstick.

I have seen many YouTube videos on 42RLE gearbox and it doesn't seem too hard to drop the pan, change the filter and refill with new oil. I agree 100% that the correct oil should be used, I'll be getting 5L from Jeep themselves
