I did my ball joint myself with a $80 ebay ball joint press and some hand tools.
It is possible to do it yourself, but it took me almost 6 hours to do it, I would not recommend to do it yourself.
I did my wheel alignment at a local tyre shop cost me $45. I also agree that $100 is too much.

I doubt he'd have quoted you for lubrication either. If you take my meaning.

Go elsewhere... he's way off the mark.

Perhaps he's never done one before so is being very pessimistic on the times required... but that's just another good reason to go elsewhere - preferably a Jeep specialist.

And if he has no idea he's probably not going to use the high quality aftermarket balljoints that are available.

Default Ball Joint questions?

I'm thinking of doing mine and not too sure if you have to drain the diff prior to pulling out the axles when replacing the ball joints or is the oil level in the diff low enough it doesn't pass by the axle (inner/only) seal? Also, with the tools you see on ebay, are there particular brands with certain size sleeves that will be right for Jeep ball joints?

Yes... drain the diff oil if you don't like making a mess.
