While it is not my jeep, I did have a fiddle with the latest member in our family, A 2001 XJ sport diesel that my sister just picked up. faultless example of a XJ.
I am amazed again at the clutter around such a little diesel engine.

How the hell did you get at it?
I got the right size torx bit but wasn't able to get on to it with anything other than a 12" shifter. Not enough leverage.
I contemplated unbolting the engine mount & jacking that side of the engine up a bit to give me more room but was doubtful about that working. So I didn't get it done

While working on the rear brakes I removed one of the rear bumpstops.
Not on purpose though, I knocked it & it fell off, full of rust

What size ring spanner fits the torx bit ???

A pair of 10mm real good quality ring spanners with a cheater bar slipped over them works OK.

If you're lucky - the torx bit will need 12mm spanners.

Others have welded a cheater bar to the torx bit.

You're right there Carve's, 12mm spanner.
I just need to find a bar to fit over the spanner. I couldn't believe how tight it is.
Not having removed one before, is it sealed by an o-ring not a gasket?
If so, what size o-ring do I need?
It'd be good to be prepared b4 I remove it
