Gear level stuck in P
I want to post this info, since it could be very useful.
Long story short, about 2 months ago I was left stranded in a rather remote little town on a Saturday afternoon, in the rain. Stopped at fuel station to refuel.
When wanting to shut off the engine, the gear level was very stiff and had to be forced into P. After refuel, turned the fob key, but no start, starter did not activate. Also gear level stuck in P.
Tried all I could. In the end had to disconnect front and rear prop shafts to move Jeep to safe location. Could not activate the N on the gearbox.
Jeep on low bed to Cape Town.
Was discovered that the main transmission wiring harness insulation disintegrated due to heat and wires chaffed through onto of transmission, causing shorts. Transmission solenoids all wanted to activate causing the system to shut down.
Wiring fixed and good quality harness tape was used as insulation.
The insulation on the Chrysler vehicles all have very poor insulation that soon becomes brittle and disintegrates.
Fortunately no electronics or other parts were damaged, but took time to identify the fault, and also not easy repair job with the harness difficult to reach.
