The biggest reason to transplant the Ford donk instead of improving the Jeep's, in my opinion, is bank/buck. Even if we consider the SOHC engine, you're looking at slightly more power, a better torque curve, and a more refined/advanced/efficient engine. Bellhousings are available to mate the Falcon engine straight to the Wrangler's gearbox, so the only other concerns are electronics and engine mounts. If I had a SOHC and Barra engine available I'd go with the Barra, but definitely as a starter the SOHC would be a safer transplant. And probably cheaper!

Having said all that, I'd be interested to see the power/torque curves when turbocharging the Jeep 4L - I can't imagine it breathing terribly well with 2 valves per cylinder, so a turbo should make a huge difference in power, and a much flatter torque curve.

I've only had a quick look here, but who makes the bellhousing from the Ford 6 to the Wrangler 5 speed?
What clutch does it use?
Anyone make mounts?

Anyone actually checked it will fit? Anyone know of a rear pickup sump for the AU/BA motors?

Found out you can remove the security off the BA ecm's with one of those flash tuners. that goes for the AU 2 onwards. also if you did go an au donk. Snort performance do turbo kits for about 3gs at around 200KW + and i think they are doing supercharger kits as well now.

Yeah, my brother is a snort dealer.

So you need the BA engine, engine loom and PCM, anything else? Will the Jeep EFI pump and lines be upto the job?

well, you'll need a return line as the jeep isn't fitted with one, i'd be putting a walbro intank fuel pump in as the origional is regulated by to computer an if you turbo it the bigger fuel pump will come into its own anyway. the other thing to think about is the sump needs to be rotated to clear the diff. some custom engine mounts and a bigger radiator and your all set

Novak makes an adapter to sit between either the AX15 or NV3550, which covers the TJ up to 2004, and adapts it to the Ford "butterfly" pattern. If someone could confirm whether the Barra engine shares that bellhousing pattern, you'd be covered. With regards to what clutch to use I wouldn't have a clue, and I wish I had the money to try it myself! :P
