Default Anyone with an awning on your KJ?

Hi guys,
Just bought myself an ARB awning and I'm wanting to install it ASAP. I was wondering how everyone else did it. I've heard from some that it's better to mount to roof racks rather than rails, and vice versa. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, as I'm completely lost!

Hey mate, yes I have one. If you have roof racks that is your best bet. It's a fairly tight and secure mounting method.

I have an awning (ARB) which I attach to the roof rack that I built. It uses two uprights on either side and the rear so I can move the awning to the best location at camp. Honestly, after taking it to the Cape it never gets used - in my experiencd opinion a waste of money in a couple of ways: the initial cost, and then the fuel used to drag it through the air every time you take it somewhere. They are also a pain to put up if your by yourself.

Yeah I've heard they can be a pain. We're attaching an awning tent to it for a big trip next year. It won't be put on the car until then because god knows the km/L is bad enough without it on the KJ. It won't be just an awning, it'll be our accommodation too, so to me that justifies the price. And no problem about setting it up, it will be me and two others most of the time. But thanks for your opinion.

Yeah, most fourbies I've seen have it mounted on the car that way. Was wondering if it worked as well for the KJ. Will likely do it that way if it works for you. Thanks!

Worked very well mate, never had an issue. Last hunting trip I went on it rained for three days, the awning was a life saver unless we wanted to be confined to the tents at camp. Money well spent for me.
