Welding Jackets
Don't waste your time with the cotton flame resistant jackets. They are just cotton treated with Proban. They will not support a flame but will still burn holes through them when hot metal hits them. I agree the cow hides are too heavy and hot and there are better options available these days. I really like the look of the pig skin jacket and think it would be a good compromise between lightweight and being able to offer adequate protection.
On another note regarding grinding in tracky daks, many years ago a fella I used to work with was using a 9" to cut sheet metal wearing shorts. He was standing on the sheet and cutting between his feet. The blade grabbed and threw the grinder up towards him. Ended up in hospital with stitches in his ball bag, old fella and stomach. Nasty business.
