OH! sorry didn't see that you had a diesel (no thanks to the glend) seeming that diesel is in such a way OIL , check the radiator when cold see if there is sludge in it , due to diesel rely on high compression the last thing you want is bent rod/s from when the coolant heats up and when stoped COOLANT pressures back into a cylinder. as we all should know WATER does not compress and will soon damage a diesel engine.

Does the KJ CRD have a water cooled oil cooler. Most Euro CRDs run one and there are instances where they fail internally and the oil being under higher pressure than the coolant gets pumped into the cooling system. However normally it is a fair bit of oil if you are driving it a bit. I've had this in my WJ and it pumped enough oil through that it was overflowing the expansion tank, flowing into the overflow bottle and out under the car. May be worth investigating.

Hi, I agree with Fester, check the heat exchange oil cooler. It is a common problem on diesels (not just Jeep diesels). I have had personal experience with this issue.

Please be aware that once fixed it will take a few flushes after running the motor for say an hour each time (I'd say at least half a dozen) to get all of the oil out of the water galleries. You may also find that your rubber hoses could perish and may need to be replaced (once the oil has been removed).

Do not drive it until its fixed.
As others have said, its probably the oil cooler.
Is very easy to tell if its engine oil or trans fluid (unlikely to be trans fluid, if it was you would have a strawberry milkshake).
Black engine oil is a pain to clean out. After replacing the oil cooler, have heard of people flushing using dish washing detergent (full bottle of home brand each flush) & water for a couple of flushes. have not done this myself.

I flushed mine with everything under the sun but I still have traces of oil. I have a product that I got from a radiator shop that is specifically for this purpose but haven't got around to it yet. I'll dig up the name.

I was steered away from HAND dishwashing liquid as it gets very foamy/bubbly and was suggested to use dishwasher liquid as it is designed not to foam up. I used a environmentally sound one (with the dolphin on it) is case others were to harsh and attacked seals etc. I also used a water based degreaser but none seemed overly effective. I did several flushes and even had the engine running with the garden hose stuffed in the inlet and the outlet open.

From US sites I came across people who raved about an SC Johnson product for clothes stain removal but alas they do not supply that product in Australia and I wrote to them to see if there was a compatible or renamed product here but there was not. Maybe other stain removers might work., they are designed to get oily stains out in the wash. You need something that will emulsify the oil not just break it down a bit, many degreasers do not emulsify it fully.

I made up a blanking plate for my WJ and plumbed in a bypass with traditional oil cooler out the front so it can't happen again. Has happened twice in my engine (once with previous owner)
