Well thats another thing I guess, I'm only likely to get 20,000kms a year or so on these as I'm a full time Uni student and public transport most days of the week.

well hamsteh you seem to have convinced yourself and read what ever you like on the net i myself only wore 2mm of tread off my mtz in 15,000 klm and all the lugs still had sharp edges on them i cannot say the same for the bighorns that i had on my jeep that had worn nearly the same amount of tread off in 3000 klm and the lugs had started to round already not too mention others like bill from dbor who had done around 60,000 klm on his mtz and had 50 percent tread left on them when he upgraded to a bigger tyre . i have seen a 18 inch set of mtz do 70,000 and still have 30 percent tread left in all the sets i have fitted i can not say even 5 percent of those would have got the 40-50k that is mentioned on the internet .

i dont tend to pay much attention to hear say on the internet and rather base my
experiences on those of myself and my customers .

but quotes like the one below make me believe you are of questionable intelligence
due to the fact your inconsideration for other road users or pedestrians as you
are quite happy to drive around on substandard tyres with as you put it " no grip "
and dont even consider what would come of it if someone pulls out in front of you or a pedestrian steps out in front of you .

i run federals mt ive now done just under 28000km and tyre probally just about half worn, they are a brilliant tyre i cant speak highly enough great in mud rocks on road wet and dry sand, and reasonally quite on road they were slippery when new on wet roads 1000kms and they come good, i previously ran a mickey thompson mtz got just over 31000kms any they were shot, after having federals i cannot justify the extra money for a mickey thompson, i wouldnt purchase anything but federals now

The first part of that message was useful information and exactly what I am after, and I appreciate it. The second however?

If you feel the need to attack someone's intelligence based upon a disagreement over tyres that is your business and I really have no further comments on that. Perhaps you should not form an opinion of someone based on a comment that was clearly not entirely in all seriousness. Bit immature mate. If you have information to share I would love to hear it, but personal attacks I really have no interest in thanks

But I digress!

Cheers Mitch and barnesy thats exactly what I was after; a bit of info on the somewhat unknown Federals. They look reasonable, the tread pattern is fairly aggressive and I prefer the look of it over the Maxxis.

EDIT:
Cheers for that also Army_Barbie, I'm having a real hard choosing when both seem to have a bit of a following. I think, however, that there might be a bit of a shortage on the Maxxis (according to a bloke at BobJane) so in the end the decision might be made for me!
