Unbolt it, stick it in 4wd H, and drive home.
Point out to your wife that it was lucky you brought a 4wd, and then light up one of the tyres in a celebration fire.
(dont forget the centre lock / front hubs if ya have em).

Ok, ok, time to be serious.
I've never had to do a driveshaft on the run (being a toyo of course ;) ), but as I understand it, you undo the plate at either end, rather than stuff around with the CV joint itself. I assume that there is some sort of spine on either end behind these plates, so I suppose there is probably going to be issues reguarding exposing greese / oil to mud/water.
Has anyone actally pulled these off? I'm sure some of ya have here, I'd be interested to know what's exactly behind the magic plate.
Just in case none of that worked I pack a stack of hacksaw blades

Drive shafts are relatively easy on a jeep, remember 4 high is your friend. As is load of duct tape....
scenario 1 is a jeep that has not had a SYE kit installed and is quite likely to break the output shaft on the t-case instead of the actual drive shaft. All you need to do is unbolt the rear end where it attaches to the yoke on the diff/pinion. On the front end there is a little rubber boot that you need to loosen off. then the drive shaft will slide off that end. Depending on where the output shaft broke will mean whether the t-case is going to spit out all of its oil when you drive home so you might need to create some sort of a catcher for it. Bit of duct tape and the top off your can of wd40 might work. Then just drive home in 4 high. feels very wierd I can tell you.
2. Scenario 2, a jeep with a SYE fitted and running a new double cardan drive shaft. If this baby breaks you have two options. Pull it off and drive home in 4High, or if you really feel like working on it take a piece of tube that is a little bit larger diameter than the drive shaft. Then assuming it broke where the slip splines are you should be able to sleeve it and adjust it to the best length you can figure. Then it needs some welding and to be re-installed. Obviously you might want to be limiting the rear axle travel here as you have just lost your slip spline and the shaft can't extend or compress like before.
Warning: I am not a mechanic or licensed in any way shape or form. Your miles may vary with these fixes so like everything on the internet use this information at your own risk.
Now because I can't be bothered typing any more someone else has to explain axle repairs or something else.
